Critical Commentary

1. “Analysis of the Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka” by Conor Fitzgerald

This article disputes the reality of Gregor Samsa’s transformation. The author discusses whether or not Gregor’s transformation was a physical or mental transformation. He also discusses the communication that goes on between the members of the Samsa family prior to and after Gregor’s transformation. Conor Fitzgerald puts forth the idea that the lack of communication amongst the family members led to the actual transformation and became even more apparent after Gregor turned into the bug he was portrayed as throughout the novella.

This essay comes from an interesting perspective. The essay discusses how Kafka’s insecurities and mental pain fueled the characters and events in the novella.
